Bronc Rider

Caitlin got tossed around pretty good on Dreamy Penny yesterday. She got on to ride her for the second time since breaking her that first day, and things were going pretty okay until Dreamy Penny decided she didn't want to do what Caitlin was asking of her. So what does any young horse do when they don't want to do what they are told? They throw a tantrum of course...not unlike a small child or a teenager who isn't getting their way.

Caitlin stayed on her for about 15 seconds before being thrown. I understand the horse was quite pissed off and bucking hard core...just like they do in the rodeos. Caitlin got banged up pretty good but got right back on the horse and rode it for a few more minutes to show whose boss. Her neck was hurting and she couldn't turn her head or raise her shoulders so off to the emergency room they went to be sure there were no fractures and thankfully there weren't. She has bruising and will be sore for a few days. I'm just glad I wasn't there to see it! I don't know that I would have handled it well...

She's already broken her ankle falling off a horse...she knows what can happen. She's a gutsy kid, for sure. I feel Tim will keep her out of real trouble working with the horses. But, there is always a worry when dealing with such large and powerful animals. I haven't talked to her in a week or so..need to call her.

Yes she knows very well what can happen and I'm proud of her for getting back on. If it were me I don't know that I would have gotten back on...although I'm not as young and resilient as I used to be and probably not near as gutsy as she is.

It's great though that you are letting her do this including all the pain associated with it and not freaking out about it (at least not openly) ;)

Thanks poodles. I think I am handling it all pretty well...no behind the scenes "freak outs" here lol. I know she is in good hands with her Uncle and I know Caitlin's a natural.

When she first started riding she mastered things that normally take people years to master...if they ever do. With the proper training from her Uncle she'll learn how to minimize her accident rate and learn how to show those horses whose boss.

With that said, I also know she will get hurt and she knows that too...it's part of the territory. But I am of the opinion that if people let fear of injury stop them, we wouldn't have important folks like firefighters, policemen, oil drillers, etc...

I have great success at falling off horses. Stayin on is easy, falling off with grace and style takes years to master. :)

Good to see someone so young with that sense of determination.
