Spoke with My Lawyer Regarding My Accident

He told me that since I didn't suffer significant injury it wouldn't be economical to sue the city given that the city has many immunities especially when it comes to construction areas, and would be very difficult to win against. So that is that.

Well, that sucks. Kind of like anyone trying to sue the U S Govt. I suppose.

Yep exactly.

I had a similar experience years ago on my bike: hit an unmarked ditch that had been dug right across the road. There was no way to stop in time, and the impact flattened both of my rims to the point that they had to be replaced. On a racing bike, that's a significant expense.

I called the city, and they cited enough clauses and bylaws that I knew then and there that the system clearly was designed to screw poor folks like us who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I'm just glad you weren't hurt in the process.
