The Weekend Can't Get Here Fast Enough!
I'm so excited about going backpacking! It has been a VERY long wait. I think the last time I went was with Thomas in June or July. I'm excited about going solo too. I'll have plenty along to read and hopefully the skies will hold clear for some great star gazing. I got out ALL of my gear tonight and organized everything and looked it over. Until I get a lighter shelter, my pack is still going to be heavier than I would like, but I'm not going to carry as much water since I think I'll have no problem finding it where I'm going. I hope I see lots of wildlife and plan on getting up very early Sunday morning for a dawn hike.

Have a good time and be safe. Be sure to leave a hiking plan with Russel and one on the dashboard of your car. Take along some of that pepper spray. Do you have your emergency kit built?
Re Knives, check out Spyderco the make folders that open with one hand. Good when you don't have two free. Ideally you want something that can be used in a number of roles.

It has a point for a thrusting attack and a straight blade for slicing as well as a serrated edge. for cutting through rope, strapping etc.

Hi JD, thanks. I hope to get some nice shots for the blog. I'm so looking forward to my trip and I do love writing about them afterwards. It's a nice routine posting pics and trip reports.
My pack is going to be a little heavy ...probably about 32lbs, but I'm not skimping on anything. Oh and Sean, I went out and bought a good knife today. :)
Hey Ginny, have a good time this weekend! I know you'll do great. :) I think all of us female, solo backpackers are getting heat about heading out.
Wish you would join us next month in CO. It should be a lot of fun.

Hi Cheryl! Thanks for stopping by the blog. I wish I could meet up with you gals in Colorado too, but I'm sure someday I'll get an opportunity. I would really love trying out snowshoeing! :)
Tonights temps are going to be in the mid 30's, it's gonna be a nice cold one! :)
