Dusty in the Hood

I spent a little time with my good friend Dusty yesterday. He was fixing a lifter in a Camaro engine and I took the opportunity to snap some shots. Some of these turned out grainy but I knew they probably would. I took the shots from the driver's seat through a dirty windshield on a gray cloudy day.

Seeds Dusty gave me for my birthday. He thinks I should container garden. I don't think my balcony will get enough light but I can try it.

Dusty did this charcoal and I own it. The photograph doesn't do it justice but it is extremely well done don't you think?

Ahhh seeds!!! now you've got me where I live kid....I can see mainly herbs along with some tomatoes and peppers. All grow very well in containers as your friend Dusty suggested. You do need plenty of sun, south facing aspect preferably, good drainage and feed both the tomatoes and peppers every other week later in early summer when the fruit begin to form.
Good luck, good fun and hopefully a good harvest.

Dusty was very thoughtful with his gift. I used to have a big beautiful garden and I miss it!

The picture of you peering from beneath what looks like a banana plant is this the aforementioned garden you miss? You can always pop round to mine whenever the occasion befits, just don't forget your hoe!

Hi Moth,

Yes the banana tree was in the garden I miss. My best friend took that picture of me almost five years ago. We had some great times in that yard with our kids.

Summer days were always filled with crunchy fresh harvests and playing in the sprinklers. Then late at night after everyone was asleep I'd sometimes garden by moon light. The chirping frogs and great horned owl were excellent company. :)

I can empathise with that last comment intirely. Gardening bare foot by moonlight with the summer dew kissing your toes....Happy Days! or should that be Nights?..My initial comment seems now to be a bit like telling somebody how to suck eggs I'm sorry for that. I see a packets of seeds and get terribly excited especially this time of year and go into advice mode even if it's not wanted.

Once a gardener always a gardener it's under your finger nails it's in your hair I love it. Your garden will return to you someday soon!

It's ok Moth. I have been exposed to gardening ever since I was little but I still have a lot to learn and am not above getting gardening advice. :)

The Natural Gardener here in Austin is my favorite garden store have you been there?

I am from out of town a little but if I was a local this little haven would surely be the kind of place I'd hang out. I studied horticulture a good few years ago and using organic principals was was part of the whole ethos I adopted then. Their website looks really cool, the Xeric garden caught my attention I like the idea of a dry garden and I'm more of a foliage person nothing too showy for me. It doesn't mean I don't appriciate it but we all have our own style I suppose.

Happy Gardening!...Moth
