Cool! Which primitive camp area did you stay in?

Well, we wanted to head to campsite H
but it was occupied with a scout troop. So we stopped at site G and thought it was pretty nice.
I'm about to sit down and write up a trip report and post pics :)
Ginny,
Did you use your steripen on this trip? I'm looking seriously at purchasing one. Do you have to be gentle with it in terms of where you put it in your pack so it won't be crushed? Or is it more rugged than that?
JD
Hi JD :)
I did use the steri pen on this Last trip and I really think it's the cat's meow pretty much. It seems quite rugged and comes with a good carrying case. I don't worry about it getting damaged in my pack at all.
The one thing I will get for it though is the filter you can buy that goes with it. The Steri pen won't do any good unless the water is clear(I'm sure you know that already). The last two places I used it had clear running streams and those had to be the best drinks of water I've had in a very long time!
Anyway I love my Steri Pen! :)
I'd definitely have to get a pre-filter if I plan to backpack the Lone Star Trail (and I do). The streams there are very shallow and could be silty. I'm not sure if the pre-filter could remove the tannic nature of the water in the wildlife ponds either.
You're a cook. Have you ever thought of using a cheese cloth to hold over the opening of a wide mouth bottle as a pre-filter? I'm not sure if it's porous enough.
